Workshop...

In this workshop i wanted to create a pattern in the paper to make the shape more interesting. I really like this way of working and it makes the shape look more delicate and intricate.

Architectural Structures

I wanted to look at architecture and some archways to have a look at the forms and shapes. I like the repetitive pattern of the arches and want to try and portray this in my work.

In this workshop we were shown how to make these sphere shapes, by creating a template of a triangle with curved flaps we were then able to attach them together to create this structure. I found this workshop the best one that i had done so far and found this technique the most effective. I might look into this method for my final piece.

Using the off cuts of the previous work i had done with the sphere, i created this shape. I think that it is really interesting, i like the detail of it and think it photographs really well.

Organic Forms - Flowers

I researched the shapes that are found in different kinds of flowers to get some inspiration of the kinds of patterns that are found in them. Such as the repetitive petals and the size of the petals for example. When looking at some of my artists such as Jen Stark and Richard Sweeney their work reminds me of delicate, organic shapes such as flowers. I want to try and create a similar feel in my own work.

Organic Forms - Shells

Alot of the work i have researched and some of the work i have created myself has reminded me of shells, so i decided to look further into the shapes of them. I want to use these spirals and repetitve patterns in my designs.

Pleating...

Another technique that Richard Sweeney showed us in one of the workshops was pleating. He showed us a certain way of folding the paper that creates this spiral shape. I really like the structure of this and it has similar shapes to a shell. I might consider using this technique when creating my final piece.

Jen Stark

Jen Stark's work reminds me of natural forms, such as flowers. Her use of colour is interesting and creates a dramatic, exciting feel to the structure. I might consider using different coloured paper in my work.
